Week One: Who Fights Your Battles

  1. Before listening to the sermon this weekend, how did you feel about the idea of “spiritual warfare”? Are you someone who tends to place a lot of emphasis on spiritual warfare or very little? Why?
  2. Read Ephesians 6:10-11. What does it look like to be “strong in the Lord”? Define that.
  3. Give an example of a time when you felt like the devil was scheming in your life. How did you respond?
  4. Who’s fighting in spiritual warfare – us? God?
  5. Take a moment to read and discuss How to Fight by Pastor Mike Price in the Grace Magazine.

Week Two: How to Know Your Real Enemy

  1. Read Ephesians 6:12. What does it mean that our struggle isn’t against flesh and blood?

  2. Practically speaking, where are you struggling right now, whether spiritually, emotionally, relationally, or in some other way?

  3. Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. How do you take your thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ? Share a practical example.

  4. What does a spiritual stronghold look like in your life?

  5. Define what you think it means to “demolish arguments.” Why is it so important to demolish arguments that set themselves up against the knowledge of God?

Week Three: Your Strategy for Spiritual Warfare

    1. In Ephesians 6:13 Paul writes about a “day of evil.” Describe a time when you went through an extended season of hardship. What part did spiritual forces play?
    2. How do you lead your family through extended seasons of hardship?
    3. Read Philippians 4:4-9. What are some of the “true, noble, lovely, pure” things in your life? Share some examples of ways you could ground yourself by thinking about such things.
    4. Imagine you’re teaching a young believer how to apply Philippians 4:9 practically. What would you say?
    5. One of our House Rules at Grace is biblical maturity. Why is biblical maturity necessary when it comes to applying Philippians 4:9?

Week Four: The One Key to Winning the Fight

  1. Share some of your biggest takeaways from the sermon this week, then review Ephesians 6:14.
  2. When was the last time you had to stand firm against something that was pushing on your faith?
  3. The Bible talks about the belt of truth. What are some of the most important beliefs for a Christian.
  4. How can we pass these beliefs on to the next generation?
  5. This weekend our pastors used a chart to describe the relationship between truth and righteousness. If you’re honest, where would you place yourself on the chart? Is there a next step you need to take in response?

Week Five: How to Keep Your Balance

  1. Reread Ephesians 6:10-15. What does a steadfast mind look like?
  2. What might it look like to have a steadfast mind when it comes to relational conflict? Financial decisions? Emotional impulses?
  3. The big idea this weekend was, “The gospel keeps us from overreacting or underreacting to spiritual attack.” Unpack that big idea in your own words.
  4. What does it look like for you personally to overreact to spiritual attack?
  5. What does it look like to underreact?

Week Six: Building the Best Defense

  1. Share your biggest takeaways from the sermon this weekend, then review Ephesians 6:16.
  2. Give an example of a time when your faith defeated the lies of the enemy.
  3. What routine in your life is preparing you to better defend yourself against the attacks of the enemy?
  4. Give an example of someone in your life whose faith has made you better.
  5. Based on their example, how can we help others grow in their faith?

Week Seven: Your Deadliest Weapon

  1. Give some examples of how you’ve seen Scripture misused.
  2. Now read Ephesians 6:17-20 and/or recap main points from this week’s sermon. How can you use Scripture to speak life and beauty to those around you?
  3. What role does prayer serve in your own spiritual growth?
  4. Take a moment to skim through this resource in the Grace magazine. Before reading it, were you familiar with the concept of breath prayers? Why do you think this exercise is helpful? Is there someone you’d like to pass it along to?
  5. How did God speak to you through this series? What’s your next step?
