Notes from Grace Winter Garden worship Director Ricky Ortiz:
“Resurrecting” is a powerful song that celebrates the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we sing this song together we get to celebrate the victory of king Jesus over satan, sin and death.
One of my favorite lines is “The resurrected king is resurrecting me.” This line gives the song a personal tone. Not only is it celebrating the resurrection merely as an abstract intellectual theological concept, but it makes it personal and applicable to the everyday Christian.
The Apostle Paul wanted the church in Rome to understand the personal implications of the resurrection as well. He writes to them in Romans 8:10-11 “But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
Paul wants us to be aware that the same power that conquered the grave, the same power that defeated death, the same power that raised Jesus to life lives in you and it lives in me. That changes everything! The resurrection wasn’t just something that happened a long time ago but it continues to happen today. As believers in Christ we can rejoice in the life giving power that is made available to us in Jesus. We can celebrate the new life that we have in Him and we can rest assured that we have victory over sin. We can be confident that we are children of God and that we belong to Jesus. And finally, we can have the hope that when we die, we will be given a resurrected body that will live on!
The Grace Worship leadership team chose to cover this song to serve as an encouragement to you as you pray and reflect this week on what the resurrection means for you. We look forward to celebrating with you this Sunday — He is Risen!
